Between cuttings, it’s a good practice to keep your blades sharp. A mulching mower is going to dull a blade quicker because you’re cutting and re-cutting the clippings several times with the same cutting edge.

So if you’re used to sharpening your blade every two weeks before, now you’re going to have to sharpen your blade at least every week.

Maybe it’s a good idea to have two or three sets of blades and just get them all sharpened at once and then just change the blades every week. Sharp or not. So you’ll always have a good sharp blade.

And it’s also important to have the right kind of blade. There are specialized blades for mulching. These two commercial mowers here on the floor use an Exmark Wavy Blade. They actually have a high and low cutting edge.

This blade, see the little teeth on the back of it. This is called a Gator Blade and this is a specialized blade for mulching.

This is a blade for Honda and they actually have two blades that stay piggybacked under the mower. So make sure you are using a mulching blade when you’re using a mulching mower and mulching your grass.
